In the Lancashire Fusiliers from the Malitia days of 1939, I was posted to India in June 1942 on attachment to a newly formed Air Support Unit which was manned by the Army and RAF. One RAF walla was said to have worked on the 'Sugar-boats' at Wapping Docks.
One day when were all more acquainted, he said to me, "What's your nime?" I replied "Fred". "That's not a nime" he said, "That's wot yer sews yer buttons on wiv!"
